The Stage is Ours

Learning Celebration, is one of event that will be conducted by each grade of primary school. It has aimed to show the parents about the things that have been learned by student. In grade 3, the learning celebration was conducted in the second unit. It is time for students to show their talents though mini drama musical. The drama was tribute for all children in Indonesia who are not common or do not know the children songs. The students will sing Indonesian children songs and acting by using English. For that reason, the tittle of this drama musical is "LAGU BERCERITA" or "The story of the song". 

There are 3 classes of grade 3. The students were divided into some team. They are actors, singers and dancers. They choose by themselves where they want to join.  We have practiced for about 1 month and the final day is them. They have fun on the stage. They play, laugh and sing happily on the stage, because the Stage is THEM.

Expressing Ourselves through Different Kinds of Arts

Let's learn about art. If you think that this is art lesson, it means you have different point of view. 

In this UOI, we talked about Expressing ourselves through different kinds of arts. Students are learning about different kinds of art, elements of arts and in the end of this topic they will perform by using the chosen art. The chosen art it means, they can chose to perform by singing, drawing, writing, designing, acting, dancing, etc. 

They will figure out the difference of art and artist. How art works in daily lives and what is the favorite art from others point of view. This picture shows that students interviewed their Visual Art teacher and other people at school to know, what is their favorite art.

In this unit, students also find out about their favorite artist from different kinds of art. There are music, literature, movie, photography, design and sculpture. We focus on the local artist to explore their curiosity about the arts in their own country. 

Math is the subject that I taught for this unit. Of course, I also teach for UOI - POI and ICT subjects together with my colleagues. 

For Math, we focus on the 2D and 3D shapes and also simple problem of multiplication and division from 1-10. The students are expected to solve word problem and simple problem by doing multiplication or division. 

Mat Pad and Auto Rap applications are used for the ICT. Students created their own composition of music by using Mat Pad and doing Rap for their poem in Bahasa Indonesia. They did well and all the creations are unique.

Rubric Presentation

Hai Friends, 

In this post, I attach the rubric that I use when assessing students' performance for presentation about respecting others. I need rubric to assess, so it is a guide for me in order to be more objective. I made it in Bahasa Indonesia because that is the language that we use for this subject. In my IB school, the native language is used during Bahasa Indonesia, PKN and Religion subjects.

Here is the rubric. I hope it can be a reference for you to create the rubric of presentation. :)

The Exicetement of UOI 1

The Unique of IB System

In IB system, we have Unit of Inquiry (UOI). The theme of learning is based on the current UOI. For instance, now I teach grade 3 of primary school. The first UOI is about Who We are. It is to give understanding to the students about their existance in this world. They are part of them selves, family, school, friendship and community. The central idea of this UOI is Respecting Rights and Responsibilities of Others. The students are expected to know the difference of right and responsibility. They try to find out their rights and responsibilities are and how they respect it.

The children were looking for the question that they make in the beginning of UOI. They found out the answer by research, interviewing, asking parents, teacher or siblings. Read books and they need to relate it and implement it in their life. The picture below was taken when the students were looking for information about the rights and responsibilities of people who have different professions such as security, cleaning service officers, teacher, principals, etc.

The students learn how to communicate with other people and to make them selves as a risk taker students. They need to talk in a good manner and be confident when interviewing the people.

In this unit, I teach UOI-POI which includes science and social studies, Bahasa Indonesia and Civilization Education. For Bahasa Indonesia, students are expected to create an exposition text to explain their analysis for understanding related to the rights and responsibilities. They can choose to focus in both areas or in one aspect, whether it is rights or responsibilities. Their exposition text are great. There are students who made the rights of navy, athlete and pilot because they want to be like that. Some of my students made the responsibilities of children at home.  They put their work in portfolio.  

For PKN or Civilization Education, we learn about how to respect others. The students present their ideas through different ways, poster, role playing and story telling. They also create cards for the special person that contains their thank as a representation that they respect others.

Hello everyone..... :) 

 My name is Pertiwi. I am a graduated student from a college in Jakarta this year. Now, I work as a primary teacher in an IB school in Jabodetabek for the year of 2014 - 2015. I am an associated homeroom teacher who has responsibility to teach and become a homeroom teacher for two classes.

 It is the new and big challenge for me because commonly I work with secondary students. Now, I need to learn quickly about the ways to teach primary students. I love this job. I have gotten a lot of knowledge about the system in IB curriculum, so I can compare it with government system for further learning. Now,I am writing to share about my short experience becoming a new teacher in my new life..
